Highsmith is genuinely in a class of her own.

The first murder was boring, the second was kind of illogical considering how flimsy things were, and the rest was just running out the clock. I decided to listen to fn as an audiobook through Audible and I found I really enjoyed reading it that way. Things really slowed down and the last little chunk patrricia the story almost felt unneeded. Bruno shares that he wishes his father were dead, and suggests a plan for the “perfect murder”: I’m not surprised Alfred Hitchcock found this book worthy inspiration for his film.

Highemith, Bruno drowns, and the murder investigation is closed. Refresh and try again. It was like her, golden, full of light, made with careful art.

An interesting, if dark, book…. During the course of the dinner, Bruno talks non-stop and he drinks in excess.
Highsmith doesn’t pay much attention to locations so no place feels real besides the scene we get when Bruno stalks Miriam. His wife Miriam is making life difficult for him, so Guy is on his way to his hometown of Metcalf to meet with her, and get the divorce finalized. These two men have people they hate in their lives and no prior connections, so why not switch murders.
Not just the story There were some bits woven into the story that I found very amusing.

It’s morally disgusting but psychologically exciting. It’s a gripping story, but gritting on the teeth. View all 14 comments. A perfect alibi, nobody knows they know each other. But, Highsmith has other concerns in her psychological drama: The original idea of murder swapping is so so clever.
There’s also a person exactly the opposite of you, like the unseen part of you, somewhere in the world, and he waits in ambush.
