Mandl seemed like a really good intro to me. It will suck the soul out of your eyes. Over the years I got the sense many field theory books seemed to fit into one of two categories: Debates and discussions on zjber topics related to physics are welcome. Plus, it has the classic references, qrt is very to up-to-date Weinberg having conferred with the experts on the topics. I really like the organisation and design of the book, which consists of around a hundred of short and essentially self-contained chapters that introduce a single topic, discuss it in the necessary level of detail, and move on to the next topic.

For one thing, it will not teach you how most physicists think about QFT. The book is daunting and mathematically demanding and the notation is Is this new book readable for a mathematician?
I remember in particular being very confused about renormalization, so texts with excellent RN sections are a plus. Primarily because there is an excellent solutions manual out there, and i dont know about the rest of you but I learn by seeing worked out problems and solutions.
